Maritime Law team tackles big purchase and financing projects

Since December, the maritime law professionals at Langlois Kronström Desjardins have had a hand in five major transactions involving Groupe Desgagnés Inc. The firm put its extensive expertise to work for the purchase (and financing, where applicable) of the RIGEL fleet of three ships as well as the M/V Rosaire A. Desgagnés, the M/V Zélada Desgagnés, the M/V Sedna Desgagnés, and the M/V Bella Desgagnés (the last two transactions are in progress). These transactions involve investments of over C$240 million.

In some cases Langlois Kronström Desjardins managed the entire transaction, i.e., the purchase, financing, and chartering of the vessel in question with the assistance of correspondents at the law firm Watson, Farley & Williams in England and Germany. When a ship is the subject of foreign financing, Langlois Kronström Desjardins acts for the purposes of the loan agreement as Canadian correspondents of the foreign solicitors representing the financial institution in question.

In addition to the jobs created and the resulting economic spinoffs, these transactions help keep the Groupe Desgagnés fleet young and strong. The Langlois Kronström Desjardins team consisted of Richard Gaudreau, Éric Robichaud, Rico Toffoli, and Benoit Leduc.
