Bernard Cliche to be awarded the 2010 Médaille du Barreau de Québec
Quebec City, July 26, 2010  – Law firm Langlois Kronström Desjardins has the honour to announce that partner Bernard Cliche, a renowned jurist in occupational health and safety, financing, occupational injury prevention and compensation matters, as well as the author of numerous legal treatises and active contributor to the community, will be awarded the Médaille du Barreau de Québec, the medal of the Quebec City Bar, during the ceremony to mark the annual return to session of the courts in Quebec City this coming September 10.

The Médaille du Barreau de Québec is awarded each year to a member of Quebec City’s legal community pursuant to a resolution of the Council of the Quebec City Bar upon the recommendation of the Bâtonnière (head) of the Quebec City Bar.

During a meeting of the Council held in June, its members unanimously resolved to award this honour to Bernard Cliche “in recognition of his entire career and especially his professional reputation, contribution to the development of administrative law, commitment to the community and involvement within the profession.”

“We are extremely proud of seeing this honour bestowed on our colleague Bernard Cliche. An exceptional individual, intensely involved within both the firm and the community in general, Bernard is a role model for all members of the firm, on both a professional and human level”, stated Jean-François Gagnon, managing partner of Langlois Kronström Desjardins.

An exceptional career

Called to the Bar in 1975, Bernard Cliche has been in private practice for over 20 years, having previously served for 10 years as head of the legal department of the CSST, Quebec’s occupational health and safety board. He has been a member of Langlois Kronström Desjardins since 2003.

Among the highlights of his career has been his contribution to the implementation of prevention mutuals in Quebec. A prolific author in his field, Bernard has written more than a dozen books, some of which continue to be important reference works. He is also a highly sought-after conference speaker.

Very active in the community, especially where young people are concerned, Bernard has sat on the board of directors of charitable organizations such as Moisson Québec and the Fondation du Centre jeunesse de Québec, both of which he chaired.

Bernard is one of three designated representatives of associations of employer groups on the task force charged with making recommendations to the CSST on protection mechanisms and other aspects of Québec's occupational health and safety legislation.

Bernard is listed as a leader in workplace injury and occupational health & safety law in the Canadian Legal Lexpert® 2008 and 2009 directories. He is also included in The Best Lawyers in Canada 2010 directory as an occupational injury specialist, and in the 2009 edition of the International WHO'S WHO of Professionals directory.

Langlois Kronström Desjardins now has among its members two recipients of the Médaille du Barreau de Québec, bâtonnier Henri Grondin, Q.C., C.Q., Ad.E. and Honorary Consul of Finland, having received the award in 1991.
