Langlois Kronström Desjardins welcomes Danielle Ferron, Commercial and Banking Litigation specialist, as partner

Montréal, May 4, 2011 – Law firm Langlois Kronström Desjardins is very pleased to announce that lawyer Danielle Ferron is joining the firm as a partner. She has also been named co-chair of the firm’s Litigation Group, together with Richard Ramsay, a partner in our Québec City office.

A specialist in Commercial and Banking Litigation, Danielle has an impressive track record highlighted by her successful handling of many complex and large-scale files, her achievements as an author and speaker, and her involvement on numerous committees and boards.

“We are very fortunate to be able to welcome a professional of Danielle Ferron’s calibre, as she will provide increased depth to our Commercial and Banking Litigation practice and strengthen our hand in key areas where our competitive position is rapidly improving” stated Jean-François Gagnon, managing partner of Langlois Kronström Desjardins.

Danielle has spent her career in private practice, at both boutique and national law firms. In addition to commercial and banking litigation, her practice includes class actions and commercial fraud and intellectual property litigation. She also has expertise in insolvency and restructuring, insurance, and information technology law.

She has spearheaded many injunctions, seizures and other urgent and extraordinary remedies, including Anton Piller and Mareva orders. She has also given several conference presentations in this area, and is co-author of the legal treatise entitled “L’injonction et les ordonnances Anton Piller, Mareva et Norwich”.

Since 2008, Danielle has been Vice President of the Association of Québec Women in Finance. She currently sits on various committees, including the executive committee of the Women Lawyers Forum of the Canadian Bar Association, Québec Branch, and the Liaison Committee with the Superior Court, Commercial Chamber. She is also a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Always generous with her time, Danielle has been involved for many years with charitable causes, organizations providing assistance to women, and school boards. Since 2009, she has been a member of the Women Against Multiple Sclerosis Committee of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Québec Division.

Danielle Ferron was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1993 and is a graduate of the law faculty of Université de Montréal.

Langlois Kronström Desjardins wins an important appellate case

On February 29, 2012, the Québec Court of Appeal rendered a long-awaited judgment in the continuing legal battle between Canadian Royalties and Nearctic Nickel Mines concerning their respective ownership interests in a mining property in the area of the Plan Nord in Northern Quebec called the Expo Ungava Property (the “Property”). Situated just south of Xstrata’s Raglan Mine, the Property has been found to contain significant mineralization and is currently being developed by Canadian Royalties, which has invested in excess of $500 million in developing its Nunavik Nickel Project.

Conference presentation by François Bouchard and Éric Latulippe
François Bouchard and Éric Latulippe, partners at Langlois Kronström Desjardins, will be giving a presentation at the 12th annual AGRIcarrières symposium organized by the Sectoral workforce committee for agricultural production. The theme of this year's symposium, which will deal primarily with human resources management in the agricultural sector, is "How to keep good employees". François and Éric's presentation is entitled "Labour laws: sow good practices and avoid harvesting problems". The symposium will take place this coming March 15 at the Clarion Hotel in Québec City.

Commercial Arbitration in Quebec
Québec Court of Appeal Upholds the Autonomy and Effectiveness of Commercial Arbitration in Quebec   
Langlois Kronström Desjardins has won an important appellate case dealing with the autonomy and limits of commercial arbitration in the Province of Quebec.  In a highly anticipated decision, the Québec Court of Appeal confirmed that commercial arbitrators have the power and jurisdiction to interpret and enforce commercial agreements through orders of specific performance.  In so doing, the Court of Appeal upheld the autonomy and effectiveness of commercial arbitration in Quebec.
