The Honourable Paul-Arthur Gendreau joins Langlois Kronström Desjardins

Québec City, September 7, 2010 - The management of Langlois Kronström Desjardins is pleased to announce that the Honourable Paul-Arthur Gendreau has joined the firm as counsel. Mr. Gendreau was until quite recently a judge of the Québec Court of Appeal, to which he was appointed on April 16, 1986.

This is something of a homecoming for Mr. Gendreau, who formerly practised law at Langlois Drouin (a former name of Langlois Gaudreau, one of the two firms that merged to form Langlois Kronström Desjardins). "I am delighted to join a well established team with such a solid reputation, and where personal relations are highly valued. I know several of the firm's lawyers well, including Raynold Langlois, who was one of my classmates, as well as Richard Gaudreau and Michel Jolin, with whom I have worked in the past. That is why I chose to continue my career at this excellent firm", stated Mr. Gendreau.
While in private practice, Mr. Gendreau primarily practised civil and commercial litigation, labour law (arbitration and collective bargaining) and administrative law. These are the areas in which he will be called upon to advise clients of Langlois Kronström Desjardins.

"We are very proud to have Mr. Gendreau as a member of our firm. His wide-ranging experience as a lawyer and judge, his reputation and his involvement in the community make him an ideal counsel for our clients seeking strategic advice", stated Jean-François Gagnon, managing partner of Langlois Kronström Desjardins.

Mr. Paul-Arthur Gendreau was born on august 19, 1939. He obtained a B.A. degree from Laval University, Quebec City, and graduated (LL.L.) in 1963 from the Faculty of Law of this University. He was called to the Quebec Bar in 1964. As a Commonwealth scholar, he studied at the London School of Economics and Political Science from 1964 to 1965.
Mr. Gendreau practised law in Rimouski from 1965 to 1980, first with his father (appointed to the Superior Court in 1967) and then a senior partner in the firm Gendreau Pelletier Gendreau Lavallée Langis & Ass. In 1974-1975, he acted as counsel for the Royal Commission of Inquiry on the Labour Relations in the Construction Industry (Commission Cliche). He served as Associate Deputy Minister of Justice for the Province of Québec (1980-1982). After his mandate to the Ministry of Justice, he practised law in Quebec City as a partner with Langlois Drouin and later with Clarkson Tetrault (now McCarthy Tetrault).

Mr. Gendreau sat as a member of the board of la Commission des services juridiques. In 1979-1980, he was the President of le Barreau du Bas-St-Laurent and a member of the Executive Committee of the Quebec Bar. Mr. Gendreau is co-author of a treatise on Injunction (l'Injonction) published in 1998. Since 2000, he has been Administrator for the Province of Quebec in accordance with article 67 of the Constitutional Act, 1867.

Mr. Paul-Arthur Gendreau was appointed to the Court of Appeal on April 16, 1986 and was sworn in on May 6, 1986.
